BAH Discover Krakow walking tour
Our guide will meet you in Plac Matejki, 2. From there we will walk through the Planty Gardens, which were once city walls, to see the remaining part of them with the majestic Barbican and St. Florian's Gate. Via Florianska St. we will continue the tour back to the Main Market Square, where we will listen to the legends about the St. Mary's Basilica, see the Cloth Hall, St. Adalbert's Church and the Town Hall Tower with the head of Eros Bendato beneath.
Leaving the Main Market Square we will proceed towards the University district, where we will view the buildings of the Jagiellonian University - Collegium Maius (the oldest academic building in Poland) and Collegium Novum (the rector's office) and hear the stories about WWII. We will then follow the footsteps of Pope John Paul II, one of our greatest countrymen. Once a student of the Jagiellonian University, then priest in several parishes of Krakow, bishop and archbishop of our city, we will see his place of study, his former home - the Bishop's Palace and his favourite temple - the Franciscan Church. After touring around the Old Town, we will have a swift break to rest and to try traditional Polish Obwarzanek- unique bagel connected with Krakow’s heritage.
Continuing our tour we will view Kazimierz, once a former city, today one of the districts of Krakow. With its interesting heritage, it is one of the most attractive places to see here. Thanks to hundreds of centuries of mixed Polish and Jewish history, Kazimierz is a district where anybody can feel unique. We will see the remarkable Oppidum Judaeorum (Jewish Town), synagogues and cemetery and hear all about them, history as well as legends. From the Jewish Town we will continue to Wolnica Square, a former Market Square of Kazimierz, just a little smaller than the Main Market Square of Krakow and we will also see the one-of-a-kind Corpus Christi Church - a gothic temple with baroque interior. From Kazimierz we will walk back to the Old Town, ending our tour beneath the Wawel Castle, the royal residence of Polish princes and kings since the 10th century.
